A Brief HistoryFounded in 1938 with just 11 classes at Radnor High School, School Night now offers over 500 courses spanning 25 subject areas. Our extensive educational network includes a variety of locations, easily accessible from the Main Line and neighboring communities. Through a wide range of non-credit programs, courses and activities, School Night provides exciting new perspectives for the edification and enjoyment of people seeking affordable lifelong learning opportunities. Our non-profit organization is governed by a board of Directors and is supported solely by course fees and contributions. It all started 70 years ago with an active Radnor parent and local businessman, Harry Creutzburg. His inspiration was to offer evening classes at the school to increase community support for its activities. Lower Merion, Conestoga and Harriton High Schools followed and were recently supplemented by alternative locations. Leadership fell to David Kreitler, who in his 50 years of service made Main Line School Night a national model of adult education. The "heart" of School Night is The Creutzburg Center, located in Radnor's Harford Park. Designed by the architectural firm of Furness and Evans, it was the Victorian estate of Judge John Innes Clark Hare. Leased from Radnor Township since 1970, The Creutzburg Center is our administrative office and location of most daytime and Saturday classes. |
